If you find a decent reliever currently out of contract, please point him in the direction of the Detroit Tigers' bullpen. This week, they have been the complete opposites of fireman, instead pouring gasoline all over a pair of dumpster fires. Luckily, Victor Martinez never leaves V-Mart without his hittin' stick that's for sale in the sporting goods department and retails for $109.95. Shop smart, shop V-Mart!
On their first visit to San Diego since 2008, the Tigers visit one of the world's craft beer Meccas. San Diego has long been a burgeoning microbrewery hot bed that has been anchored for a while by Stone Brewing Co. and their flagship Arrogant Bastard ale (profiled last year). Several other great breweries have popped up in the area. Mission Brewery is right next to Petco Park in the Gaslamp District. The taproom features several great beers as well as other non-beer beverages they craft, plus a shuffleboard table. This series, we will be profiling their fantastic Shipwrecked Double IPA.
To go along with the perfect weather San Diego is notorious for, this floral, hop heavy double IPA is a great sipping beer for a night out at the ballpark. The subtle sweetness from the malt gives way to a nose-opening citrus hop bite evident from the lovely cloudy apricot head. There is a bit of maltiness present, but the beer's body is a double IPA true to form. Also, the damn thing is available in a one-quart can!!! At 9.25% ABV and 75 IBUs, the 32 oz can is pretty much all you'll need to go along with the baseball game and some fish tacos.
Mission Brewing Company is located in San Diego, CA.
