Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody has confirmed Detroit Tigers' reliever Evan Reed was questioned in regard to the sexual assault allegations made public ten days ago. Sgt. Woody would not give further details about the questioning, only saying the investigation is ongoing.
Reed's legal representation released a statement about the police questioning:
Evan Reed and his attorneys, Davis Gorcyca and Ben Gonyek, have been fully cooperating with the Detroit Police Department since the inception of the investigation. Even though Evan was under no legal obligation to make a statement, Evan voluntarily appeared at the Detroit Police Department and told investigators what exactly transpired on March 29th and 30th.
The Detroit Tigers have stood by their one statement about the allegations, which was released when the team was preparing to leave for their west coast swing on April 7:
"The organization is aware of the very serious allegation that has been made against pitcher Evan Reed. This allegation is concerning and we are aware of an on-going investigation. It would be inappropriate for the ballclub to comment further at this time."
Reed has continued to pitch for the Tigers during the investigation. No charges have been filed and Reed is not in custody.
