Tracking the Tiger's 2014 W/L Trend

I thought it would be fun to create an interactive graph that tracks the 2014 Tigers W/L record vs past Tiger teams. What do I expect this to show? I'm not sure yet, but I think it might be interesting. There are two charts. The first chart shows the current team in relation to past playoff teams back to 2006. The se3cond shows the current team in relation to teams that did not make the playoffs. I don't we'll be looking much into the second one this year, except to maybe be able to point to some physical evidence when someone screams "this is 2008 all over again" when we hit a 5 game losing streak, and say "no it isn't". Anyways, the data plotted shows the number of games into the season vs the team's number of games over or under 500. And if I did this right, the charts should auto update as I update the Google spreadsheet after each game. Pretty neat huh?

What is interesting is that each year the Tigers made the playoffs, they had at least 1 big surge of wins where the team will reel off 15-20 wins over a 20-25 game span. The surge in 2006 happened around mid May, and was followed by a longer surge over the summer. In 2011, the surge happened very late in the year, around late August and into September. In 2012, that surge helped pull the Tigers from below .500 and got them back into the race for the division. What will this year's season hold? Stay tuned to find out.
