RETROACTIVE Beer of the Series 2.6 - Los Angeles Angels

Jamie Squire

Thanks again for being patient with me. I know my wife appreciates it.

I see we finally broke the Angels hoodoo in a big fashion over the weekend. Also love that Wonderboy finally took the Golden Sombrero with him back to Anaheim. He'll no doubt give it to Josh Hamilton by the end of the season, though.

With so many great breweries in the state, last season I didn't get to feature Soo Brewing Company. They're a smaller outfit than most of the breweries I have featured thus far, but they still make some solid stuff. If you're willing to make the trip up to the Locks, you may as well stop by for a pint and bring a growler home. The featured beer for them is their GoldiLocks Blonde Ale.

Soo Brewing Company uses Lake Superior to turn out some great, crisp, easy drinking beers that are perfect for a spring afternoon (real spring, not the fake 45 degree rainy spring). The GoldiLocks Blonde (the "L" is a play on the Soo Locks) is a perfect example of this. Nothing too harsh and heavy (as the IPAs can sometimes be), but still a nice flavorful transition beer for the American pilsner drinker. It has a little more of a hoppy bite than a typical blonde ale, but it uses a wheaty character to balance it nicely. At 5.9% ABV and only 15 IBUs, it's a great beer you'll definitely enjoy at the ballgame or on the back porch with some friends and buffalo wings.

Soo Brewing Company is located in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. It is definitely worth the trip to Almost Canuckistan.
