GIF: Brad Ausmus challenges, umpires *#$& everything up

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!

Having instant replay in baseball is great! Well, except for the long delays and calls that are still missed despite having access to 273 different camera angles with enough clarity to make NSA satellite feeds blush. One of those happened in today's game when Brad Ausmus challenged a play at second base in the fifth inning.

A routine double play ball was dropped by Andrew Romine when he was transferring the ball from his glove to his throwing arm. However, the umpires did not recognize the play as such, and called the baserunner safe.

A second camera angle (slo-mo GIF!) clearly showed that Romine had the ball before dropping it on the transfer.

Luckily, the play did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the game, as the Tigers cruised to a 10-4 victory. Bossmus also has yet to deliver a speckle-filled rant after a bad call, though it will be interesting to see him get heated at some point this season.
