Well, that week sucked.
Cement yourselves as the class of the league on the road and promptly turn in a craptacular 1-6 week with three blowout losses and more questions than answers about your pitching staff will make any team need a drink. Turn it into a road trip out west where you normally play poorly and...well...
I'm torn between blaming the Zubaz and Jonah Keri's now notorious jinxing abilities. Let's go with the Zubaz for now.
Oakland was the magnet of west coast brewing for years until prohibition shut down the 40-plus Oakland breweries. Since then, it has been slim pickings until recently. The city has revived itself into a solid craft beer locale, but the largesse of their oeuvre has yet to cross the Rockies. However, Oakland itself is but a small village in the NorCal brewing region that has churned out some of the best beer in the country. Today we're going to feature the Lagunitas Sucks.
The Lagunitas Sucks was a Brown Sugar Substitute Ale designed to be brewed on a tight schedule due to construction that didn't quite turn out as expected, but it was actually pretty damn good once they tasted it. It's a brulee-flavored spice ale with malt heavy holiday qualities (and if you think it's too warm for a holiday style ale, just remember, the Tigers are playing in Oakland during a warm weather month, so it's guaranteed to be about 45 degrees and windy for one game). The molasses-flavor is extremely omnipresent, yet doesn't make the beer sickly-sweet, and a sharp hoppiness cleans up the palate at the finish. At 7.85% ABV and 63 IBUs, this is the appropriate beer to take the edge off from a tough week and celebrate the sacrifices made by those who served to make our country great.
Lagunitas Brewing Company is located in Petaluma, CA.
