2014 MLB All-Star Game roster update: Miguel Cabrera only Tigers player on pace to start

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Two weeks remain before All-Star rosters come out, and Cabrera will likely be Detroit's only starter.

Two-time American League MVP Miguel Cabrera should represent the AL as a starter in Minnesota next month. Right now, he's the only Tigers player to earn that honor.

Cabrera has 2,645,000 voters as of Sunday night. Ian Kinsler trails Robinson Cano by nearly 700,000 votes at second base, and Victor Martinez is about one million votes behind Nelson Cruz at designated hitter. Really, the results aren't much of a surprise. Nor should they be.

Even with the season he's having, it's hard to feel Martinez is being snubbed for Cruz, with 23 home runs and a .974 OPS. Martinez does have the edge in OPS at .993. You can make an argument for either player.

Beyond those two, the Tigers have no legitimate claim to being all-star starters.

Remember pitching staffs are not voted on, but are rather named by the league's manager. Defending Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer is probably in, even though his ERA is a bit elevated at 3.84. Anibal Sanchez, with a 2.33 ERA, ought to be in. Justin Verlander's case is rather hard to make beyond name recognition.

Here are the voting totals, as released by Sunday. Online fan voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. (ET) July 3.
