Wouldn't this be the ultimate case of selling high? The off-season drama that was "Scherzer-gate" the tit-for-tat between the Tiger's front office and the "Mean-Team" of Boras' minions would suggest that the Tigers have absolutely no shot in resigning Max for any kind of money that's logical, considering 6yr/144,000,000 (zeros added for effect) was considered too cheap.
I'm taking into consideration everything that you hear about current trade rumors and current Tigers Management:
1. The organization does not have an endless bucket of money to shower on players like the proverbial winners Gatorade bath.
2. Nobody wants to "trade the future for a 1/2 year rental" seeing the farm system cupboard already bare.
The Tigers are about to go into the break leading the Central Division with a 7.5 game lead (+/-1 as of this writing). Conservatively thinking that Scherzer has approximately 7 wins left in him this year, Tigers get a lot more value out of him to a close race National League team that's still in the hunt than our current situation. Could the Tigers get a Fifth Starter, Reliever or two, and stock the Minor League system all for one All-Star Cy Young winner?
