Beer of the Series 2.28 - Tampa Bay Rays

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Even though I have written about 80 of these things, it's certainly been a fun project to research more than it has been to write. I apologize for not staying on top of it nearly as well as I did last year. However, I think I have it caught back up, and I will try to keep it more regular into and through the All-Star Break. Also, I just finished my bourbon milk stout, so look for notes about it in my next post.

In celebration of the Fourth of July, the Tigers get the lovely honor of playing four games against the worst team in baseball. However, while the record leaves plenty to be desired, the team is still more than annoying enough to ruin what should be a fine celebration of our great land (and our new Secretary of Defense, Tim Howard) by winning three of four and turning the Tigers' bats into funnily shaped walking sticks for strolls back to the dugout.

Frankenmuth Brewery has been around for over 150 years producing great, staid German styles. The beer that we're celebrating this time is the Batch 69 American IPA.

American-style IPAs are known for being hearty and hop-forward, and the Batch 69 is no different. Bright notes of citrus and pine greet the nose and compliment the deep golden color. The initial flavor is flowery and slightly sweet before the bold AMERICAN hops cleans the palate and announce their presence with authority. At 6.9% ABV and 69 IBUs, the Batch 69 is a great beer for a barbecue with brats and spicy foods before the fireworks on Friday. Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

Frankenmuth Brewery is located in Frankenmuth, MI.
