Beer of the Series 2.48 - Cleveland Indians

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Coming down the stretch, many were hoping that the Detroit Tigers' boosted rotation due to the David Price trade would help carry a slumping offense through to a fourth division title in a row. While a rough August seemed to indicate otherwise, the arms are starting to come around. Combine that with Miguel Cabrera finding his stroke and the schedule starting to break favorably, and a team that was pegged by everyone to win the AL Central looks like it might actually win the AL Central.

The Cleveland Indians are making their final trip to the Motor City of the season. Once again, they seem to be on the outside looking in at a playoff spot, sitting four games out of the Wild Card and 4.5 games behind the Tigers. Last year, they were further out, but still found a way into the playoffs, so don't be surprised if they find a way to rip off another long streak to end up in the postseason.

Tri City Brewing Company has come from a small tap room to a well distributed portfolio across Michigan. Last year, we talked a little bit about the relationship they have with the Great Lakes Loons, a Class A affiliate with the Dodgers. Yes, the people of the Tri Cities got to watch Clayton Kershaw pitch on a regular basis. Lucky bastards. This series, we're going to profile the Giant Slayer Russian Imperial Stout.

Like any good Russian Imperial Stout, you cannot see through this beer, and it smells like dark chocolate and coffee. It's a rich, hearty brew that automatically makes you grow a massive beard and want to watch every episode of "The Americans" which, really, you should already have done. The chocolate and black malts are everpresent, giving the cacophony of hops a lattice to float on. Thick, robust, and flavorful, this beer will do well to warm you throughout the weekend. The finish lingers, but in a good way, giving you the memory of a rich and bracing beer for the rest of the meal. This beer is great with a wedge of chocolate cake, and at 9% ABV and 66 IBUs, it might make you forget the next bullpen implosion.

Tri-City Brewing Company is located in Bay City, MI.
