San Diego Shopping Ross and Kemp?

In this recent article, Ken Rosenthal discusses the possibility of the San Diego Padres dealing Tyson Ross along with Matt Kemp - much in the same way they acquired Craig Kimbrel along with Melvin Upton Jr. last off-season - to free themselves of Kemp's 4yr/$86mil contract.

This post is by no means my soapbox to declare that I've found some sort of solution to the Tigers problem. And I'm definitely not here to try and theorize what a trade might look like. But I am curious about BYB's opinions on Avila the Sr. swinging a deal for the duo.

While it would mean overpaying for Matt Kemp, Tyson Ross could be a quality addition to the Tigers rotation. Obviously, he's been a target 'round these parts for awhile now, and for good reason – nearly 200IP each of the last 2 years with an ERA hovering around 3.00 while averaging roughly a strikeout an inning. And he's under team control for two more seasons.

One could (rather successfully) argue that Kemp is no longer worth the contract that Dodgers gave him under the previous regime. His defense is regressed and he posted a career low .265/.312/.443 last season. He would, however, fill the hole in LF while providing another source of power in the line-up.

So what do we say, BYBers? Would you be interested? Ross earned $5.25M last season and will be due for a raise through salary arbitration. That said, could their combined salaries may prove to be a more cost-effective solution than filling both holes through free agency?
