MLB Debuts - Where Are They Now? 2012 Edition

The Tigers had 10 players make their MLB debuts during the 2012 season, which ended with a World Series loss to the San Francisco Giants. Where are those players now, two and a half seasons later? Read on...

Drew Smyly (April 12)

Currently on 60-day disabled list for Tampa Bay Rays, suffering a season ending torn labrum (shoulder) in his third start of the 2015 season. Was traded to Tampa in the deal that netted pitcher David Price for the Tigers. Was 0-1 with 2.70 ERA at the time of his injury.

Thad Weber (April 22)

Currently at AAA Toledo. Was signed as minor league free agent by the Tigers on January 8, 2015. Appeared in three games for San Diego Padres and five games for Toronto Blue Jays in 2013; spent 2014 season with NC Dinos of the Korean Baseball League. Has yet to appear in the majors in 2015.

Luke Putkonen (April 29)

Currently a free agent. Most recently released by Tigers from AAA Toledo. Has yet to appear in the majors in 2015.

Quintin Berry (May 23)

Currently at AAA Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox). Was selected on waivers by Kansas City Royals in 2013 season, but never appeared in majors for KC. Appeared in 13 games for 2013 Red Sox, stealing second base in the 8th inning of Boston's 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the 2013 World Series. Appeared in 10 games for 2014 Baltimore Orioles. Signed as free agent by Red Sox on January 17, 2015. Has yet to appear in the majors in 2015.

Casey Crosby (June 1)

Currently a free agent. Was most recently released by Boston Red Sox on April 4, 2015. Has yet to appear in the majors in 2015.

Bryan Holaday (June 6)

Currently at AAA Toledo. Has bounced between Toledo and Detroit for previous 4 seasons. Has batted .271 with 1 home run and 12 RBI thus far in 2015 season.

Jose Ortega (June 8)

Currently at AA New Britain Rock Cats (Colorado Rockies). Signed minor league contract with Rockies on November 18, 2014, after being released by Tigers. Has yet to appear in the majors in 2015.

Hernan Perez (June 9)

Currently on MLB roster of Milwaukee Brewers. Claimed by Brewers off waivers on June 2. Is batting .338 in 33 games as a utility infielder for Milwaukee. Recently hit first major league home run.

Darin Downs (July 3)

Currently with Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, an independent professional league. Was most recently released by Houston Astros from their AAA affiliate. Has yet to appear int he majors in 2015.

Avisail Garcia (August 31)

Currently on MLB roster of Chicago White Sox. Traded to White Sox in three team deal that brought shortstop Jose Igesias to Tigers. Was heavily rumored to have had multiple dalliances with the wife of then Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder. Is batting .272 with 7 home runs (but 75 strikeouts) as White Sox starting right fielder.
