With Victor Martinez out of the lineup in Pittsburgh, the Tigers' seemed short a power bat Wednesday night. Instead, Jarrod Saltalamacchia stepped up with the biggest blast of the night. With two outs in the sixth, down a run and with the bases loaded, he turned on this Arquimedes Caminero--mostly I just wanted to type that name-- fastball and blew the game wide open.
The moon shot to right was the hundredth of Saltalamacchia's career. It was only a week ago that he struck the big blow against the Marlin's Jose Fernandez, with a two-run shot in the second game of the season. So far, the Tigers are getting more than their money's worth, particularly with James McCann sidelined. The Marlins are not.
