Beer of the Series 4.12: Washington Nationals

LexBeerScene.com

Everything sucks. Baseball is awful. We will never win a game again. There is nobody on the farm to save us. Only five guys in the lineup can hit. Trade Miguel/J.D./Castellanos/Verlander for prospects. FIAR BRANDON ASSMISS!

OK, now that I got all that out of my system, let's all chill out a bit. The season is really freakin' long, and Sparky used to say, "Give it 40 games." If you remember, the Tigers were under .500 into JUNE in 2012, and that team ended up doing just fine, World Series be damned. Last season, Toronto was scuttling up through late July, then went and got Troy Tulowitzki and David Price and, well, then Jose Bautista had the greatest bat flip in recorded history. To put it another way, it sucks that the Tigers have lost seven straight, but this team still has a lot of talent, can hit the crap out of the ball, and can figure this out, so just have a beer and relax.

Washington D.C. used to be a dry zone in the United States following prohibition, but in the last few years, quite a few breweries have popped up in the District. 3 Stars was one of these new ventures founded by two homebrewing friends. In 2014, they were named Rising Stars in the area for their unique takes on several styles. Today, we'll talk about the Southern Belle Imperial Brown Ale.

Smooth and bold, the Southern Belle is a sipping beer. Made with Chocolate, Crystal, and 2 Row malts plus flaked oats, this beer is a deep, dark ale brewed with toasted pecans to make for a bright, nutty aroma. A clean, slightly bitter finish lingers on the tongue, giving flavors of coffee and pecan that dry the palate. At 8.7% ABV, this beer pairs nicely with pecan pie, obviously, or salted caramel cheesecake; a perfect dessert beer.

3 Stars Brewing Company is located in Washington D.C.
