Beer of the Series 4.24: Seattle Mariners

So, this is a retroactive post regarding beer from while we played Seattle. Remember that? Over a week ago? It was in the time when we thought baseball sucked after getting bludgeoned by the team that shall not be named in a city next to a state that it's named for. The Tigers came back to Comerica Park a bit bloodied and frustrated, and they took out their anger on the Fightin' Robinson Canos. All four games were close, too, so it showed a lot of bullpen strength and (other non-stats terms that make SABR-metricians want to throw their computers), but it also provided a great need for beer.

Way up in Traverse City, North Peak Brewing Company provides both an eclectic menu and a fantastic beer list tailored to tempt your wild side. Today, we're going to look at the June Bug Rye.

I am not a huge proponent for fruit in beer. Be it a Blue Moon with a pretentious afterthought of an orange wedge or a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat that tastes sickly sweet, fruit does more to ruin beer than improve it. However, if the balance is just right, it can produce a flavorful, refreshing taste. The June Bug Rye does this very well with blueberries added in to a subtly spicy rye ale. With a hazy purple body, it balances well with spicy Mexican food or strawberry shortcake, and at 5.6 ABV, it's easy drinking enough to have a couple during a game.

North Peak Brewing Company is located in Traverse City, Michigan.
