Avisail Garcia hits for the cycle, Minor League Recaps 7/7

Toledo, Erie and Lakeland all won during yesterday's action. The GCL Tigers had the day off. Avisail Garcia was the story around the minor leagues last night, as the Toledo outfielder hit for the cycle. Garcia recorded an eighth-inning triple to secure the feat. Jake Thompson also started for West Michigan and was tagged with the loss.

Triple-A: Toledo Mud Hens (38-54)

W, 9-7 vs. Indianapolis. With his eighth-inning triple, Avisail Garcia completed his bid for the cycle. Garcia also scored four runs, stole a base and had three RBIs. Nick Castellanos, Kevin Russo and Argenis Diaz also all drove in two runs apiece. Jose Valverde picked up the save, and Jose Ortega earned the win for Toledo by pitching 1 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball.

Taillon pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out six batters and not yielding a walk. Jon Link earned the win for Erie, as the right-hander pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball. Tyler Collins, who hit a home run and a double in the contest, drove in two runs for the SeaWolves. James McCann drove in the other Erie run, and Melvin Mercedes notched the save to secure the win.

Francisco Martinez plated the game-winning run with an eighth-inning double that plated Devon Travis. Travis and Luis Alberto Sanz both notched three hits in the victory for the Flying Tigers.

Dominic Ficociello got Connecticut on the board with a fourth-inning home run. Pat Leyland was the only Tiger to record multiple hits.
