"I made 30 starts last year and didn't have to go to the DL. Every pitcher has risk going forward; I'm one of them. So the violent delivery, whatever knock you want to come up with me, that's fine, I'll go out there and pitch, and I'll have success."

-- New Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer, quoted in the Arizona Republic (via the Detroit News)

Nontender List

Some interesting names on this list for the rotation or DH spot. Chad Gaudin? Chien Ming Wang? Jack Cust? Think it would be worth signing any of these guys?

White Sox Reach Agreement with J.J. Putz

Scratch another one off the list. Internal options are looking more and more likely.

Mark Schlereth in "The Changing of the Hat"

This is hilarious, Mark is on Mike and Mike in the Morning and they do a little ceremony as he changes his allegiance from the D-backs to the Tigers. Pretty comical stuff.

Phil Coke to start?

Sounds like they're going to give him a chance to be the #4 or 5 starter because of his minor league stats and the fact that he's a solid lefty. It makes even more sense to make the trade now if Coke pans out to be a starter instead of reliever. At this point, I'd rather see him start than Robertson.

Q&A with Grandy on The Big Lead

I was going to just copy & paste the title of the article, but I had trouble with the whole "new Yankee" part..

Phil Nevin new AA Erie Manager

"On Thursday, former Tigers third baseman Phil Nevin was reportedly hired to manage the SeaWolves in 2010. Nevin will succeed Tom Brookens, who was hired in October as first base coach by the Tigers after two seasons as Erie's manager."

Astros to sign Brandon Lyon

Pity. He was probably my first choice out of all the (realistic) closer options, but it appears the closer/setup market is a lot more lucrative than MLB Trade Rumors thought it would be and Lyon's season was just "that" good. The Tigers do net a supplemental pick for him, though. Maybe they'll spend it on a promising college SS or third baseman.

Tigers Considering Podsednik

With the Pierre rumors, it's clear Dombrowski is looking for any player that fits some sort of leadoff profile. Or, maybe it's just a way of raising Podsednik's cost for the White Sox.

Tigers Sign Ruddy Lugo

He pitched for the Mud Hens last year but apparently on ESPN it's worth noting. I know nothing of him to be honest.
