Brewers sign Matt Treanor

11

The Brewers signed Matt Treanor to a minor league deal, just in case anyone cared. Miller Park will be graced by Misty May's presence.

Tigers Sign Minor Leaguer Dumatrait

29

According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Tigers signed minor league pitcher Phil Dumatrait. Dumatrait was non-tendered last week by the Pittsburgh Pirates, after the two sides couldn't agree on a contract. He missed large parts of the 2008 and 2009 seasons while recovering from shoulder surgery. The 28-year-old left-hander pitched in 15 games as a reliever for the Pirates this year, compiling an 0-2 record and 6.92 ERA. He walked 11 batters in 13 innings. (Dumatrait also started 10 games in the minors this season.) EDIT: ewild also posted this in a FanShot, adding that the Tigers signed first baseman Jason Stokes. Stokes hasn't played regularly since 2007.

Cubs Trade Milton Bradley to Mariners For Carlos Silva

30

The Seattle Mariners' wonderful offseason continues. And the Milton Bradley dream has died for the BYB'ers who hoped he'd find his way into a Tigers uniform next season. According to various reports, this trade will be announced later today.

Tigers Show Interest in Cust

According to Jerry Crasnick, Detroit is one of four possible destinations for Jack Cust. He hit .247/.369/.461 with 22 home-runs against RHP last year and would presumably be used as a platoon player.

If you can't be the best...be the worst!

Link is to an ESPN insider story by Jay Jaffe of Baseball Prospectus where he rates the best team of the decade, as per stats like the HLF calculations that drives that site's in-season power rankings. The 2001 Mariners stand at the top, but, as we could probably have guessed, the 2003 Tigers are the worst team of the decade, with the 2002 Tigers close on the heels of the infamous 2003 edition.

Ramon Santiago avoids arbitration, signs 2 year deal w/Tigers

Ramon's a decent enough backup if you ask me. Glad he will be around.

White Sox Acquire Juan Pierre

37

Those of you who worried over his on-base percentage or other stats needn't worry any longer. The White Sox are sending over two minor-league pitchers. One wonders what they are going to do with an outfield that (at this point) consists of Quentin, Pierre, and Rios.

"He'll knock in 90 runs, for sure."

Top 111 Free Agents

3

This is Matthew Pouliot's (of NBC's Circling the Bases) list of the top 111 free agents. My question: How is Fernando Rodney listed at number 13?
