The Detroit Tigers 40-man roster organizational tree

Last updated: 1/17/12

Organizational trees can be a nice way of quickly seeing how a team was built. What players were signed as free agents? Who was drafted, and in what round? Who was traded, and who was traded for them? Each limb contains a player's history with the organization and any related players.

By the way, credit goes to Bill Ferris at the Detroit Tigers Weblog for the first draft of the tree. We're just keeping it up to date here at BYB.

  • Notes:

    22 pitchers, 17 position players

These dates and types of acquisition are listed for how and when each player first came to the team. For example, Magglio Ordonez was first signed in 2005. Jhonny Peralta arrived via trade in 2010 before re-signing as a free agent. For players who either signed as a free agent or were acquired by trade, I listed the year as the first season they played for the Tigers.

Amateur free agents are internationally signed free agents, as the First-Year Player Draft only applies to players from Canada and the USA or its possessions (for example, Puerto Rico).
