Padres place OF Hairston on DL, among other moves

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres placed outfielder Scott Hairston on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a torn ligament in his left thumb. The 28-year-old Hairston sustained the injury in Wednesday's 5-4 win over Arizona diving for a ball in center field. He is batting .248 with 17 home runs and 31 RBI in 112 games for the Padres in 2008. The club also recalled pitcher Cla Meredith from Triple-A Portland, purchased the contracts of pitcher Josh Geer and outfielder Will Venable from Portland, outrighted right-hander Josh Banks to Portland and announced that left-hander Wil Ledezma has been claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
