Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent will undergo surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee on Tuesday, the team announced on Sunday. The 40-year-old Kent can begin rehabilitation soon after the operation and might be available by the end of the season, manager Joe Torre said. "From the report I got, we'll see what's in there, but he's not necessarily out," manager Joe Torre said. Kent said that he's been playing with torn cartilage for more than a month, but on a play Friday against Arizona he felt it catch in the joint and the pain sent him to Los Angeles for an MRI. The Dodgers will place Kent on the 15-day disabled list and recall infielder Chin-lung Hu from Triple-A Las Vegas. Kent is batting .275 with 11 homers and 57 RBI in 117 games this season.
