Recap: Los Angeles vs. San Diego

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Casey Blake homered and scored two runs to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-2 victory over the San Diego Padres in the first of three games at Chavez Ravine. Greg Maddux (7-11) got his first win in a Dodger uniform in two years and tied Roger Clemens for seventh all-time with 354 wins, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Jonathan Broxton pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save of the season. Manny Ramirez went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run batted in and James Loney added two hits for Los Angeles, which has won three straight after losing eight in a row. The Dodgers, coupled with a Diamondbacks victory earlier Monday, remained 2 1/2 games behind Arizona for the NL West lead. Adrian Gonzalez had a double and scored a run and Kevin Kouzmanoff drove in a run as the Padres snapped their two-game winning streak. Chris Young (4-5) made his first appearance since August 10, throwing five innings and giving up four runs and six hits while striking out three and walking three. Brian Giles, Luis Rodriguez and Kouzmanoff started the first inning with three consecutive singles off Maddux to give the Padres an early 1-0 lead. The Dodgers tied it up in the home first. Andre Ethier drew a one-out walk, stole second, advanced to third on Nick Hundley's throwing error and scored on Loney's RBI single. Los Angeles took the lead in the second. Blake led off with a single, stole second and scored on Angel Berroa's RBI double. Maddux followed by helping his own cause with an RBI single to plate Berroa. The Dodgers took a 4-1 lead in the third on Blake's one-out solo homer off Young. The Padres put together a two-out rally in the sixth. Gonzalez and Chase Headley hit back-to-back doubles off Maddux to cut the deficit to two. The Dodgers padded their lead in the seventh. Russell Martin and Andre Ethier each singled to put runners on the corners. Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to give Los Angeles a 5-2 lead. Game Notes The season series is tied 5-5...Before the game, the Padres activated pitchers Young and Shawn Estes from the 15-day disabled list, requested waivers on infielder Tadahito Iguchi and pitcher Brett Tomko for the purpose of giving them their unconditional release and purchased the contracts of infielder Matt Antonelli and pitcher Wade LeBlanc from Triple-A Portland...The Dodgers on Monday placed second baseman Jeff Kent on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 30, recalled infielder Chin-lung Hu, outfielder Jason Repko, and pitchers Eric Stults and James McDonald from Triple-A Las Vegas, activated outfielders Andruw Jones and Delwyn Young from the 15-day disabled list and activated pitcher Scott Proctor from the 60-day disabled list...Loney extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
