When Mickey Stanley played shortstop in the World Series

Was there ever a more daring move in a World Series than moving your center fielder into the infield to play shortstop? In 1968, the Tigers benched SS Ray Oyler in favor of CF Mickey Stanley. Amazingly, it worked. Do you think this ever happened before or since? Would any modern-day manager have the nerve to do this?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Bless You Boys writing staff.

Research
I did a little bit of research on this when I wrote what ended up being an aborted project for the Hall of Fame, but I couldn't anything nearly this bold.

Not to toot my horn, but you can check out the eventual article by following the link.

Typos
Sorry for the typos.  What I meant was that the column on my blog is what was supposed to be put up for the Hall of Fame 100th anniversary of the World Series.  Still not sure why it never happened.
