Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Forget Curt Schilling, Detroit

Pursuing Curt Schilling might have become a moot point once a box fell onto Joel Zumaya's shoulder, creating the immediate need for more relief pitching.  Yet Detroit Tigers fans and bloggers were still hopeful, and beginning to let their imaginations run with the possibility.

However, rumors began to circulate yesterday that Schilling was on the verge of re-signing with the Boston Red Sox.  And Schilling confirmed that a deal was getting close on his blog.

Apparently, only formalities needed to be settled upon by that point, because the Red Sox and Schilling reached an agreement on a one-year contract this morning.  Terms of the deal are $8 million, with an additional $2 million worth of incentive clauses.

One of those incentives reportedly has to do with Schilling reporting to Spring Training at a certain weight.  (What if Mike Ilitch had said Schill could eat all the Little Caesar's Pizza he wanted?)  And according to the Boston Globe, Schilling could make another $3 million, tied to the amount of innings he pitches next season.

Here is Over the Monster's take on the news.

It was nice to think about...
...but in the back of my mind I figured Shilling to the Tigers was a pipe dream. I can settle for The Gambler.
