Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Adios to Jose Capellan; Hola to Denny Bautista

In a far less significant deal than the one being currently discussed with the Florida Marlins, the Detroit Tigers are talking to the Colorado Rockies about swapping right-handed relievers.  According to the Freep's Jon Paul Morosi, Jose Capellan would go to Colorado, with Denny Bautista coming to Detroit in return.

Capellan was a disaster for the Tigers after coming over from the Milwaukee Brewers.  In 10 appearances for Detroit, he posted an 0-1 record and 6.43 ERA in 14 innings.  However, the 27-year-old Bautista doesn't look to be much of an improvement with a 2-1 record and 12.46 ERA in 8 2/3 innings with the Rockies.  He didn't pitch in the post-season.

From what I've been able to find out, Bautista throws in the high-90s, mixing in a slider and curveball, but has issues with his control.  (Don't we all?)  Here's an old scouting report from 2003 by MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo.  Dave Dombrowski already has some familiarity with Bautista, as he signed with the Marlins while DD was their GM in 2000.

And just so we're clear, this is Denny Bautista, not outfielder Danny Bautista, who played for the Tigers from 1993-1996.

In other somewhat Tigers-related trade news, Omar Infante has been shipped off by the Chicago Cubs.  He's on his way to Atlanta, along with pitcher Will Ohman.
