Sunday Short Hops - 09/16

 With the Tigers starting a three-game showdown against the Indians at Jacobs Field tomorrow, the Freep's Jon Paul Morosi compares each team's center fielder.  Who ya got: Curtis Granderson or Grady Sizemore?

 Interestingly, the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo posed that very same question to a former Red Sox broadcaster and a Triple-A hitting coach in today's edition.

 In the Chicago Tribune, Phil Rogers expresses his admiration for Granderson, while taking a swipe at the Cubs and White Sox for not drafting a local kid.

 Over at Mack Avenue Tigers, Kurt channels Fire Joe Morgan and dissects (eviscerates?) Tony DeMarco's "worst collapse in recent memory" column on the Tigers at MSNBC.com.  In a couple of weeks, that could be the worst column in recent memory.  

 This probably won't surprise anyone who's smacked their forehead each time another Tiger ends up on the disabled list, but Detroit has put in the third most days on the DL in the American League this season (behind only Kansas City and Oakland).

 Tracy Ringolsby points out that the disciples of Dave Dombrowski who went on to their own general manager jobs (Kevin Malone, Frank Wren, Dan Duquette, and Dave Littlefield) have an 0-for-4 success rate.

 Isn't a story about a security guard possibly stealing something from Tiger Stadium more interesting if we find out what exactly he took?

 Your non-Tigers related item of the week comes from our nation's capital, where the Washington Nationals held batting practice in their soon-to-be-completed new ballpark for the media yesterday.  At least one blogger joined in the fun, and MissChatter from Just a Nats Fan took pictures of the event.  (via Nationals Journal)
