Like Stripes On the Fur Coat of a Tiger - 09/28

Powered by watching Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on the Today Show, as Will Carroll might say...

Judging from this article, the Tigers sure sound like they plan on bringing Todd Jones back as closer next season.  And it doesn't sound like they think Joel Zumaya is ready to take over that role.

D-Town Baseball takes a look at each of the trades the Tigers made this season, focusing on the pitchers that were dealt.

Over at Tiger Tales, Lee takes a look at where the Tigers rank in several batting categories.  And there are a lot of familiar names in the top three of each list.

Michael Rosenberg looks back at the 1985 Tigers in today's Detroit Free Press.

Jason Beck responds to Rob Parker's "Sheffield should retire" column.

At Take 75 North, Matt recaps the 2007 Erie Seawolves and thinks a couple of them could be fighting for major league jobs in Spring Training next year.

While we're talking about Erie Seawolves and the Arizona Fall League, Michael Hollimon and Dallas Trahern are expected to be on the Team USA roster for the International Baseball Federation World Cup, which will be played in Taiwan this November.  As a result, Burke Badenhop will replace Trahern on Detroit's AFL roster.  (via the Detroit Free Press)

Pat Caputo is saying he told you so about Magglio Ordonez.

Doh
That article in the Free Press has a pet peeve of mine. Dallas Trahern and Mike Hollimon, who were both going to the AFL, are instead going to play in the World Cup. So Burke Badenhop will be replacing Dallas Trahern.

What about Hollimon? Would it have been so hard to say, for example, "Hollimon isn't being replaced because the Tigers don't have another middle infielder ready to play in the AFL"? Or even just "Hollimon's spot is not being replaced" or if that's not true, "It's unknown who is replacing Hollimon."

It just seems like common sense to me.
