Inge Watch: Not a Dodger, But Maybe a Cub?

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Dodgers are apparently not interested in trading for Brandon Inge.  And once again, it's the remaining $19 million on Inge's contract that is scotching any potential deal.  Would Inge be playing for another team (Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers, Giants, etc.) if not for the huge money he's still owed?  It sure looks that way.

But maybe money isn't an object for the Chicago Cubs.  At least that's what the Tigers are hoping.  The Freep's Jon Paul Morosi is reporting that Dave Dombrowski has "had general discussions" with his good friend and fellow general manager, Jim Hendry, about possibly bringing some bullpen help to Detroit.

Morosi goes on to speculate that Inge might be just the guy to fill the Cubs' need for "a right-handed hitter who is capable of playing centerfield."  Hey, isn't center field where Inge played today?  How about that?

Meanwhile, MLB Trade Rumors is trying to connect the salary dots and thinks Ryan Dempster and his $5.5 million salary for this season might be a suitable trade chip for Inge.  Last year, Dempster saved 28 games, along with a 2-7 record and 4.73 ERA.  He struck out 55 batters in 66 2/3 innings.
