The Solution For The Tigers

When our position players hit, we don't pitch. When our Starting pitchers have good outings, we dont hit. With a team full of problems, where do you begin?

As far as starting pitching goes, I really dont see a whole lot options. Porcelo is no where near ready and there is really no stand out guys in the minors to bring up. When Willis comes back, I think they should just pitch a 6 man rotation. I know it sounds crazy, but an extra day of rest may help some of these guys. None of them have had the stuff they had last year, and Im sure there arms could use all the rest they can get.

The bull pin has been the bright spot as of late, so lets move on to the every day players. First of all, we really need to put Sheffield on the DL. If you cant throw a ball, or swing at bat, you should not be playing. Its another shoulder surgery waiting to happen. So who would we bring up? I think Hessman would be a great choice. He does have 18 home runs and 31 RBIs while batting .282. He also would be a defensive upgrade over Cabrea at first and Gullien at third. But would that be the answer?

Some people believe that the Tigers should not go crazy and do something drastic. I am not one of those people. I believe if they really want to make a big change, they need to make a huge move. There are a couple of things this offense really needs. For one, another left handed bat. And not just another Jacque Jones, but someone who can really make a difference. Yes i know Joyce has been productive, but we need an established pro who can do it over the whole season in the middle of the lineup. We also need some patience. Just count how many first pitch swings this team has in a game. I never seen any thing like it. Another thing they need is something to take a little pressure off these hitters. They are all pressing. And of course, Someone who can drive in some runs. I believe there is a solution out there, that would fill all of these needs, even though no body would like it.

Yes, im talking about bring in  the hated Barry Bonds. Yes, i know hes a jerk, and a cheater, and he may be behind bars someday. But the man can hit. It would end the 3 year search for another productive left-handed bat with power. It would also add patience. He is the all time leader in walks. And there is no doubt he would take allot of pressure off of the other hitters. All the attention would be squarely on his shoulders. The story would not be, "what the heck is wrong with these guys". It would be "What did Barry Do." (for the first couple weeks at least). And Barry is no stanger to attention. There is also the relationship between Leyland and Barry from there Pittsburgh days. If there is any team that Barry is right for, it is this team.

Now I know most the people that read this will be greatly apposed to this idea, and the thought of Bonds in the old English D makes them sick. But thats a feeling Tigers fans have gotten use to this season, so why not set the negatives aside, and bring in one of the best players to ever play the game. I know hes not nearly the player he use to be, but im sure he can still be productive as a full time DH. I guess the question you have to ask your self is would you rather see the team play losing baseball, or see Bary Bonds in a tigers uniform?
