Tonight the Tigers made yet another young pitcher look good (see outings by Scott Baker and Zack Grienke over the last month or so), striking out nine times and not drawing a single walk in granting Francisco Liriano his first major-league win. Congrats to the young lefty, but can the Tigers try any harder to run themselves out of the season?
Brandon Inge followed up a four-hit night with homer number 16. In his last five games, he's 9-18 with three home runs. He and Curtis Granderson continue to be the lone bright spots for a team that just wants to go home.
But they can't. Not quite yet. 71-89 means they need to win two straight to beat last year's record, and that they need a split to tie. Jason Johnson and Nate Robertson will carry the torch on Saturday and Sunday.
