Open Thread: 7/14/05 Royals @ Tigers

vs.

Today begins the second half of the season for the Tigers (41-43), as they begin their quest for success against the Central foe Kansas City Royals (30-57). Former Tigers and current Royals manager Buddy Bell comes to town for the first time with his new club. The Royals will send out the young right hander Zack Greinke (1-11) to face the Tigers ace and star pitcher Jeremy Bonderman (11-5). Greinke has been affected by playing on the Royals, yes, but his ERA (6.20) seems pretty high considering the expectations people had for this guy.

The Tigers seem to have momentum on their side, as they were successful in winning 5 of their last 6 games headed into the all-star break.

Game time is 7:05 pm. You can check out the game on FSN Detroit or WXYT 1270.

If you have time, James over at TigersTalk.com puts up nice series previews before each set. You can check out the one for the upcoming Royals series Here. The Free Press also does quick little previews to check out.

On a side note, Rotoworld.com had a quick blurb concerning Tigers pitcher Mike Maroth:

If the Marlins trade A.J. Burnett, they may look to fill his spot in the rotation by acquiring Mike Maroth from the Tigers.
According to the Detroit News, the Tigers aren't quite sure whether they should be buyers or sellers at this point.

I know that Maroth's name has been linked with a lot of trade rumors so far this season, but I figured this one was worth sharing seeing how big the AJ Burnett situation seems to be.

By the way, I'll be filling in for Jeff the next couple days as he is doing a long move to a new location. I figured I would help him out seeing that he puts so much hard work into BYB.com trying to make it the best place to view and discuss Tigers baseball on the net. I just want to say good luck to him and whoever else is involved in the trek.
