Some Quick, Random Notes

Percy to the DL:

Troy Percival, the closer in his first season with the Tigers, has been placed on the DL once again due to that recurring injury to his pitching elbow. From an article on MLive.com came this quote from pitching coach Bob Cluck:

"He's been hurting all along, but it's been under control, because of some great work by our trainers," said pitching coach Bob Cluck, who spoke with Percival Thursday. "He just said it's gone the other direction. It took a turn for the worse."

His first time around on the DL was for about a month. This time it could be for the rest of the season. It is now time for Kyle Farnsworth to get his shot at the closer role. Farnsworth has 5 career saves.

To fill in the void on the roster, Craig Dingman was called up from Toledo. Craig was 2-1 with a 2.81 ERA in AAA this season, and went 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA for the Tigers last season.

Two Polanco Notes:

Tigers infielder Placido Polanco has also been hit with the injury bug, just not on the same scale as Troy Percival. Due to a strained hamstring he suffered last week against Tampa Bay, Placido is sitting out, possibly until Sunday or Monday.

For some good news, Placido wants to stay in Detroit:

Placido Polanco stayed in Detroit over the All-Star break and attended the game Tuesday night. The spotlight in which the city basked for three days only made him think in stronger terms that this is where he wants to play.

"I had a great time at the All-Star Game," he said. "The city did a great job. I was glad to be there. Now I know we have great fans. I really like it here. I would love to stay five years, maybe six years more. I'd like to say for the rest of my career, but I don't want to get greedy."

I say if the front office messes this up, there is definitely something wrong. I can see Polanco being a fan favorite and great teammate in Detroit for quite some time.
