ALDS Game 1: Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees

New, comments

It's the most wonderful time of the year. That's right, folks. The 2006 MLB playoffs have started and our beloved Tigers are playing in a postseason game this evening.

It may not get any tougher than traveling to Yankee Stadium to start a playoff series. However, this is a team which has overcome the odds all year. No one expected them to make the playoffs at the beginning of the year. Now, that they've proven those people wrong, they again find themselves with people expecting them to fail. This is a tight-knit team with an experienced manager and strong rotation. I say, let them doubt the Tigers. They'll continue to prove people wrong.

Tonight's starting pitchers:
Nate Robertson (13-13, 3.84) vs. Chien-Ming Wang (19-6, 3.63).

Wang's ability to get groundout after groundout is pretty impressive. He should be getting quite a few AL Cy Young votes. Wang's definitely had some success against the Tigers in his career, going 3-0 with a very low 2.52 ERA against them. However, Nate had a 2.76 ERA in September and the fact that he's a lefty should help him tonight.

The game can be seen nationally on FOX. It can be heard on WXYT-AM (1270), WTKA-AM (1050) and WDFN-AM (1130).

Coverage on FOX starts at 8:00 p.m. The first pitch is expected at 8:19 p.m.
