Tigers backup catcher Vance Wilson was not able to play today because of an injury suffered recently. Pudge was forced to start and play this afternoon's game, even though he was scheduled for a day off:
Tigers manager Jim Leyland had planned on having catcher Pudge Rodriguez sit out on Thursday with Detroit playing a day game after a night game. But when backup catcher Vance Wilson stepped on a ball Wednesday and turned his ankle, Rodriguez didn't have the luxury of an off-day.
