Looks like Mike Maroth elbow injury was serious. Serious enough to give up 6 unanswered runs in the first inning yesterday, and serious enough to land him on the 15 day DL today. Maroth was a game time decision yesterday, and it turned out being pretty ugly. Reliever Roman Colon came in and cleaned up the mess in a game the Tigers ended up winning in the end.
To fill the void left by Maroth's departure, the Tigers re-called pitcher Chris Spurling. Spurling was on the Tigers major league roster when the season started, but was sent down last month. He appeared in 12 games for the Mud Hens, going 0-1 with a 0.93 ERA.
