The Tampa Bay Devil Rays (26-37) come to town tonight to face the Tigers (40-23) in the first game of a four game set. This begins a stretch in the season where the Tigers will face off against three teams with sub-.500 records (D-Rays, Cubs, Brewers). I'm not saying this will be an easy task for the Tigers, but it could be a good change of pace from the last set of games they've had.
The Devil Rays young ace Scott Kazmir (7-4, 3.59) will face off against another young flamethrower, the Tigers Justin Verlander (7-4, 3.35). Both are putting up fairly impressive numbers this season, although both are coming off of losses in their last starts.
In what could be considered "robbery," the Devil Rays acquired Kazmir via trade from the New York Mets in exchange for Victor Zambrano. He has been a great addition to the young Rays, winning 10 games last year in his first full season with the team, and has been consistently good this season.
Two of the best young pitchers in the game will face off tonight, so this game will be a must-see.
The game will begin at 7:05 and be aired on FSN Detroit and WXYT am.
