Yet another shutout for the Tigers pitching staff today ensured a sweep of the visiting Houston Astros and cemented the Tigers as a team that has comically dominated the NL Central - alongside the White Sox and Twins (who are doing the same thing). The win today gave the Tigers a 13-2 record against their NL counterparts this season, as they have gone 19-7 in the month of June.
- The Tigers now have 11 shutouts on the season. This leads all of the American League clubs (next closest: CLE - 7) as well as the whole Major Leagues. They also lead the league in ERA (3.45), and runs allowed (289), and WHIP (1.23).
- Following a foul ball that was fouled off of his left shin in the 4th inning today, Magglio Ordonez was forced to leave the game. The foul ball ended up creating a shin contusion, and Alexis Gomez was forced to come in as a pinch runner. Fortunately for the Tigers, the X-Rays examining Ordonez's shin came out to be negative. Magglio is now listed as day-to-day, and the off day tomorrow couldn't have come at a better time for him.
- Justin Verlander won his 10th game of the season today, joining teammate Kenny Rogers for most wins in the AL.
The Tigers will now travel to Pittsburgh to battle the Pirates for a weekend series. The Pirates have been struggling and this is perhaps a nice series to have as the Tigers try to continue their hot streak.
