The Detroit Tigers have acquired first baseman Sean Casey from the Pittsburgh Pirates. In exchange, we will send minor league pitcher Brian Rogers.
Casey is a career .304 hitter and adds a solid left-handed bat to the lineup. This season, he's batting .296 and has a .377 OBP in 59 games.
To make room for Casey, the Tigers sent Chris Shelton to Toledo. While "Big Red" was popular with the fans, his bat had been less than stellar as of late.
Casey has a reputation as a great teammate. He also has a great glove. Casey has not committed an error this season and has a career .995 fielding percentage.
Bringing in Casey may not be the earth-shattering move some fans were looking for, but he does improve the team. And there is still time before the 4:00 p.m. trade deadline ...
