I'm willing to bet the Tigers are happy to be back in Detroit. Yesterday's 6-4 loss to the Yankees completed a six-game road trip in which the Tigers went 2-4. The Tigers' offensive woes continued yesterday as Marcus Thames, Omar Infante, and Magglio Ordonez were the only Tigers to get hits in the game.
August was a very challenging month for the Tigers. They went 13-16 and saw their lead in the AL Central shrink to 4.5 games. They will need a strong September to remain atop the most competitive division in baseball.
If Kenny Rogers (14-6, 4.02) is able to get his 15th win tonight, he and Justin Verlander would be the first pair of Tigers to reach that feat in the same season since 1997. Rogers will face the Angels' Ervin Santana (13-6, 4.34).
The game can be seen on FSN Detroit and heard on AM 1270.
