Open Thread - Game 23: Twins (13-10) at Tigers (12-10), 1:05 p.m. EST

Carlos Silva (1-1, 2.74) vs. Justin Verlander (1-0, 2.08)

Another Saturday matinee at Comerica Park, with the Tigers looking to bounce back after blowing another late-inning lead. (And to a team that had been struggling to score runs over their last five games.) They should get a good start from Verlander, who's pitched well against Minnesota (3-1, 2.25 ERA), but as we're well aware of, the starting pitching hasn't been the issue lately.

For the Twins, beginning the season with Silva in their rotation, holding off prospects like Matt Garza, Scott Baker, and Glen Perkins, raised some eyebrows, but he's pitched well enough to make the Minnesota braintrust look pretty savvy. He struggled in his two appearances in Detroit last season, going 0-1 with a 22.09 ERA, but if his sinker is working as well as it has thus far in 2007, the Tigers could find themselves hitting a lot of ground balls to what's been an outstanding infield defense.
