Today's game saw the Tigers patient at the plate, having put together nine walks off of the Blue Jays pitching staff in the contest. Maggs led the team with three at the plate today, followed by Casey with two.
Monroe and Inge were the only Tigers in the lineup today who are yet to get a hit in the two games thus far. The good news for Craig, though, was that he picked up two RBIs despite still holding a .000 batting average.
The Tigers actually stole two bases today, and it came in the same inning! Could we be seeing a more aggressive Tigers team on the basepaths this season, or was this just a case of them picking on Jays' catcher Greg Zaun?
The bullpen struggled immensely today, with Rodney and Grilli giving up a combine eight hits and seven earned runs over only 2.1 innings pitched. Luckily Todd Jones came in and was able to secure the save, although he once again made it interesting for us Tigers fans in the ninth.
Good to get the first win overall, but this game ended up a lot closer than many of us expected after the big early lead. Some of its on the shoulders of our relievers, some on the shoulders of a very good Jays lineup. These little struggles from our pen will slowly work themselves out as the season rolls along.
