Placido Polanco Will Not Talk Golf With You

Today's Detroit Free Press had one of the more (unintentionally) hilarious quickie interviews fit to print in a daily metropolitan newspaper. As part of its weekly bonus golf coverage, the Freep will interview a local celebrity or athlete about his or her golf game. This week, Carlos Monarrez asked Placido Polanco about golf, and he really didn't have much time for it.

QUESTION: Do you play golf?

ANSWER: I don't care much about golf.

Q: Do you ever play once in a while?

A: I have played before but I'm not really into that, so I think I'm the wrong guy to ask any questions.

I don't know if Monarrez deserves credit for this, but he kept trying. I guess he figured if he was going to drive out to Comerica Park to get some interviews, he had to come back with something.

Q: I've talked with Joel Zumaya and he says he hates golf and thinks it's boring. What's your take on golf?

A: I don't think it's boring but I'm not a golfer, you know? I don't pay much attention to it.

Q: What do you think about golf? Is it a little too slow?

A: I don't think anything of golf. I don't have anything to say, you know?

We certainly know now, Placido. So much for inviting him to the first annual Bless You Boys Invitational, currently scheduled in my own mind for some miniature golf course in the area later this summer. Placido could stay inside and play video games if he likes, of course.
