Hello from South Carolina, all. (Actually, I guess that should be "y'all.") I guess I just couldn't stay away from BYB completely. While staying in to avoid what looks to be record-high temperatures, I was going through some of the photos I've taken so far, and thought this might be of some interest.
I spent the weekend in Cameron Maybin's hometown of Asheville, NC, visiting my sister's fiancé in what's just a crazy coincidence, and as you might imagine, a local kid getting the call to the majors was kind of a big deal. In fact, it was front page news for the Asheville Citizen-Times.
And as you know, Saturday's Tigers-Yankees game played on national TV, which meant Asheville got to see Maybin have the best game of his very young major league career. The bar at my hotel had the game on, but that might have had more to do with the ballgame being the only sporting event on TV, rather than Maybin playing Yankee Stadium. (If only I'd had a chance to watch the game here. I would've loved to get some thoughts from local fans. Unfortunately, hitting a sports bar wasn't on the weekend's agenda.)
