Zach Jackson (0-0, 5.17) vs.
Armando Galarraga (12-4, 3.17)
A Tigers-Indians series in late August certainly doesn't hold the same significance we thought it would back in March. But there is something at stake in these next three games. If you haven't been paying attention - and I hadn't been - Cleveland has been playing some good baseball while Detroit continues to struggle. Over the past 20 games, the Tigers are 9-11 and the Indians are 14-6. As a result, the Tribe now finds itself just 1 1/2 games behind Detroit for third place in the AL Central.
Finishing ahead of the Indians was one of the goals for this season, if I recall correctly.
The Tigers should be able to begin this series on a strong note with this season's best starting pitcher going in the opener. Armando Galarraga hasn't taken a loss in his last six starts, and is riding a three-game winning streak. He's also won each of his three outings against Cleveland this season, compiling a 3.57 ERA in those games.
For the Indians, Zach Jackson is making his third start since getting promoted from Triple-A Buffalo. He was part of the haul Milwaukee sent to Cleveland in exchange for C.C. Sabathia. In 12 innings thus far, Jackson and his "funky Dontrelle-Willis-esque delivery" have given up eight runs and 15 hits.
