This Week's Poll Question

We're going to try something new this week, as I'd like to see if we could do a bit more with the polls posted each week in the right sidebar. For one thing, the polls can get lost in the sidebar content, and I'm not sure how many people see it unless they scroll down the front page. And if you read BYB via RSS, you're not seeing the poll at all. It's not a huge deal, but I thought we might be able to do a bit more with it.

So we're going to devote a post to each week's poll question. And though I'm hesitant to pull the plug on last week's poll concerning the Tigers' fifth starting pitcher, it looks like one choice is beginning to pull away. Plus, I can't really begin a new feature with old material, right? (Maybe we'll pose this particular question again during Spring Training.)

This week's poll is in response to Jon Paul Morosi's article in yesterday's Freep about Placido Polanco and his current contract status. Polanco is in the last year of his deal, and with several prospects developing that could take over at second base, there's a very real possibility he won't be back with the Tigers next year. Should Detroit take this opportunity to get a little younger in the lineup, or is Polanco's presence too important to this team?

(I addressed this topic back in November for TigsTown.com, which was behind the premium firewall at the time. I'm hoping I'll be able to repost it here in the spring.)

That brings us to our poll question:

Should the Tigers give Placido Polanco a contract extension?

You can find the poll on the right sidebar below the FanPosts block. (We have some ideas for that in the weeks to come, as well.) Or you can click here to vote. And of course, your comments on the subject are also welcome.

Okay, less build-up and exposition next week. If you have suggestions for future poll questions, shoot me an e-mail. Thanks for participating!
