2009 SBN Baseball Awards: AL Most Valuable Player

This week, we've been posting the results for each of Major League Baseball's regular season awards, as voted upon by the SB Nation baseball bloggers. On Monday, the Manager of the Year awards went to the Angels' Mike Scioscia and the Rockies' Jim Tracy. Tuesday, the Rookie of the Year winners were the Rangers' Elvis Andrus and the Braves' Tommy Hanson. And yesterday, the Cy Young Awards went to the Royals' Zack Greinke and the Giants' Tim Lincecum.

But today is the big trophy. M-V-P! M-V-P! M-V-P!

The 2009 SBN balloting for the American League Most Valuable Player can be seen after the jump:

Picking 10 guys on the ballot seems crazy to me, but that's how the Baseball Writers Association of America voters do it. And I suppose it provides a chance to acknowledge those who also had great seasons.

Here's how I voted:

  1. Joe Mauer
  2. Kevin Youkilis
  3. Derek Jeter
  4. Justin Verlander
  5. Kendry Morales
  6. Ben Zobrist
  7. Mark Teixeira
  8. Miguel Cabrera
  9. Michael Young
  10. Jason Bay

Did Cabrera slide down my ballot after the events of October 3? Yes. But I don't know if I would've put him much higher than I eventually did. Maybe fifth. I don't think I'd have put him ahead of Morales. I wonder how many other voters put him in 10th place in light of what happened?

Here are the National League results:
