Jose Contreras (0-1, 7.20) vs.
Armando Galarraga (1-0, 1.29), 1:05 p.m. EST
After yesterday's rainout, the Tigers will try to salvage a split in their first series of the season versus the White Sox. There's still a little bit of rain in the forecast, but not as much as yesterday, and it should clear up by game time. From there, the conditions should be pretty nice.
Armando Galarraga starts today on his normal turn in the rotation, with Rick Porcello getting pushed back to Sunday. In his first game of the season last Friday, Galarraga was brillant, holding a Texas lineup that came into Detroit with big bats to five hits in seven innings. He also struck out a career-high eight batters.
Galarraga only faced the White Sox once last year, in the season's final game. As you might recall, that didn't go so well. Pitching in relief, Galarraga ended up blowing a lead and taking the loss, after walking a batter and throwing two wild pitches that allowed a run to score.
Jose Contreras comes off a rough first start of the season, giving up four runs, seven hits, and three walks in five innings against the Twins. In three starts against the Tigers last year, he went 0-2 with a 7.13 ERA. He pitched twice in Comerica Park, giving up 11 runs (10 earned) and 23 hits in 10 innings.
