Justin Verlander (2-2, 5.66) vs.
Cliff Lee (1-4, 3.92), 7:05 p.m. EST
After being shut down (and shut out) by the buzzsaw that is Mark Buehrle, the Tigers try to re-ignite their offense against the Tribe tonight in Cleveland. Before we start, I thought you might enjoy this from Andy Borowitz:

But maybe hold off on beginning that cycle until after this weekend, okay?
Has Justin Verlander experienced the breakthrough we've all been waiting for. He's allowed one total run in his last two starts (covering 14 innings), with 20 strikeouts versus just three walks. Last Saturday against this Indians team, he gave up just two hits while striking out 11 batters. Pitching in Cleveland has been problematic, however. In eight career starts at Jacobs Progressive Field, Verlander has a 1-7 record and 9.00 ERA.
If not for Verlander's dominance, Cliff Lee probably pitched well enough to get a win against the Tigers last week (though he gave up 12 hits in seven innings). He's winless in his previous three starts, despite allowing five runs in 23 innings. So run support has obviously been a problem. Last year, Lee went 2-0 in three starts vs. Detroit, though he posted a 5.09 ERA.
