Rick Porcello (6-4, 3.98) vs.
Ian Snell (1-6, 5.54), 7:05 p.m. EST
Welcome to Detroit vs. Pittsburgh Night. Back in Detroit at Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings and Penguins play a winner-take-all Game 7 for the Stanley Cup championship. Over in the Steel City, the Tigers and Pirates begin the second stage of Interleague Play with a three-game weekend series at PNC Park.
Ian Snell in winless in his past nine appearances, though he pitched well in his last start, giving up three runs and eight hits in six inning vs. the Astros. In his two starts before that, however, Snell allowed 11 runs, 14 hits, and nine walks in 11 innings. This will be the first time he's faced the Tigers in three years. Back in 2006, he gave up four runs and seven hits in five innings at Comerica Park.
After allowing only five runs in the month of May, Rick Porcello has given up seven runs so far in two June starts. But those games were against two of the better teams in the American League, the Red Sox and Angels, which would likely be a tough test for any pitcher, rookie or veteran. On the road this year, Porcello has a 3-2 record and 3.52 ERA. And tonight, he'll get to swing the bat for the first time since high school, where he played shortstop when he wasn't pitching.
Wait until you see who's batting third tonight. Here are your starting lineups:
