Braden Looper (5-3, 4.62) vs.
Armando Galarraga (3-7, 5.56), 7:05 p.m. EST
After a 5-6 road trip, the Tigers return to Detroit for a six-game homestand against two National League opponents. And the head guy in the dugout has himself a brand new two-year extension, announced this afternoon.
So much for Armando Galarraga's progress. After three starts in which it looked like he might be figuring himself out, he took a big step backwards last Saturday against the Pirates. Galarraga lasted just two innings, giving up four runs and eight hits, and had his manager disgusted with him. He's now winless in his past nine appearances. At home this season, Galarraga is 2-3 with a 5.17 ERA in six starts.
This was to be Manny Parra's turn in the rotation, but off-days in the schedule allowed the Brewers to send him down to the minor leagues and keep everyone else on their normal routine. Braden Looper is winless in his last three starts, taking a no-decision in each game, and allowing 11 runs and 21 hits in 16.2 innings. In eight appearances (two starts) against the Tigers, Looper has a 3-1 record 6.89 ERA. Last year at Comerica Park, he gave up four runs and seven hits (three of them home runs).
Dusty Ryan is in the starting lineup after being called up from Triple-A Toledo earlier today. And Magglio Ordonez continues his "indefinite" break, which isn't a benching. Here are tonight's starters:
