Game 76: Tigers at Athletics

Rick Porcello (8-4, 3.55) vs. Brett Anderson (3-7, 5.74), 10:05 p.m. EST

The Tigers have lost six of their last nine road games, but that was during Interleague Play. Enough of the National League. Bring back the American League! And Detroit might be bumping into just the right team as they resume their AL schedule. The Athletics welcome the Tigers into Oakland nursing a five-game losing streak.

For those A's, Brett Anderson is pitching tonight after being pushed back from Friday to rest a tired arm. He's winless in his past three starts. And in those 14.2 innings, he's given up 14 runs and 23 hits. Anderson faced the Tigers when the A's visited Detroit in mid-May, and gave up nine runs in 3.1 innings. Only three of those runs were earned, however, as every Oakland infielder ended up committing an error. In five starts at home, Anderson is 1-4 with a 5.52 ERA.

Rick Porcello took just his second no-decision of the season in his last start. Despite allowing seven hits and a season-high four walks in his five innings, a struggling Chicago Cubs offense could only score two runs against him. That gave the Tigers the opportunity to win the game in the later innings. Porcello has thrown 97 pitches in his past two outings, which makes you wonder if he might be watched a bit more closely tonight. The rookie has been impressive on the road, compiling a 5-2 record and 3.02 ERA in seven starts.
